Depression Can Steal Your Life If You Let It


It is not abnormal to feel a bit down in the dumps now and again for whatever reason, but if the depression persists with the same intensity for a long period of time you may want to seek the help of a doctor who can get to the core of your problem and make a diagnosis. Depression is not something to fear and seeking a solution sooner rather than later will be in your best interests. Would you be surprised to learn that with the advent of technology and being indoors all the time punching keys on a laptop that
you are depriving yourself of much-needed sunlight and exercise? We are sitting or lying down all the time. We are exposed to radiation and other chemical hazards. We are not doing enough with our bodies. In the old days we brought lunch to school or to work and sat outside in the sun during break. It not only feels good it provides Vitamin D. In our depressed states we are not interacting with people and laughing enough. Depression is very much a condition of the soul. Understanding depression Are you prone to long bouts of loneliness, or just feeling a little sad? When you are sad do you go out to meet friends and lift your spirit, or do you creep under the covers and sleep it away? How would you describe yourself; happy or
sad or in-between? These are the questions that should be asked. Make a list of things you want to discuss with the therapist. If you have a history of depression, tell him about it. Check if you can try the holistic or natural way first before jumping into medication. Drugs should be a last resort. To help you understand more about how the body works, get books on the subject and speak to friends who have experienced depression and can answer your questions. Treating depression Wake up in the morning and tell yourself you are going to have a great day. If your doctor has prescribed something natural, take it, and start your morning with a brisk walk. Take a moment to admire nature and feel the sun on your face and breathe in the fresh air. Talk to people. Sit in the park. Donít allow dark thoughts to reside in your head. Stay away from friends who are toxic and family members who disturb you. Read a book and fall asleep on the couch. Eat the right foods and include vegetables and fruit. Do not eat chocolate or anything containing caffeine. If the sun is out, work in the garden and plant some flowers. Working with your hands in the soil is good therapy.
